Topic of the Month : THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

This newsletter is in memory of my recently deceased uncle.

Honest, Integrity, Dependability and adherence to the Golden Rule. These are some of the qualities that define those who take the high road through life. You can choose to make a positive difference in this world or not – the choice is up to you.

Life’s journey has many road blocks, bumps and alternate paths and many times has no road map to guide you.

In previous newsletters, I discussed goal setting and affirmations. These were presented as tools to help you be who you wanted to be and reduce your stress. The reason why they are effective is because they form life’s road map.

Goals

Goals form the big picture. It is the map. The long term goals lay out that highlighted path you will take and the short term goals lay out the specific directions. When you take the time to honestly figure out where you want to get to (written down in such great detail that you can touch, taste and feel it) and how you want to arrive there, you can start to plan the journey. If you don’t know where you are going, you can never get there.

One last thing about goals, if you make the effort to plan your trip, but never look at the directions, the planning was in vain. Review your goals regularly and make changes to them as you grow and your perspectives will change.
Affirmations

No journey worth making is ever easy. Affirmations are the internal motivators to assure you that not only can you do it, but you can do it your way. Affirmations are daily statements that help you feel like the person you want to be, in the place you want to be in, with the people you want to be with. These are the little reminders that help you make the correct choices along the journey and help you change your mood and state of being when you are feeling down.

Advanced Citizenry

How do you want to get to where you are going and is your original destination still your desired destination? Many times the original plans you lay out will change. As we move along life’s path and grow as people, we realize that there is much more than personal gain and financial success. We learn that spending time with loved ones, enjoying every day and helping others become just as important.

Being an advanced citizen means that you have a solid base of honesty, integrity and dependability and now you have chosen to do more and be more. You have chosen to help others and give back to your community and the world. There is no greater reward than knowing you have given back to the world and helped others just for the sake of giving and a desire to help. I encourage you to consider having an “Attitude of Gratitude.” Be thankful for what you have and not upset for what you have not.

A road paved by the bodies of those you have conquered and destroyed will produce many regrets in the long run. Kindness, compassion and love for others can pave the road you travel and make your journey smoother and that much more enjoyable.

Take the high road! Be an advanced citizen. Be a person who achieves their goals and dreams while still helping others who may be less fortunate or just need your help.

For my uncle, Honest, Integrity and Dependability were the words he lived by. At his funeral one of his friends said “If there was anyone in the world I would choose to be stuck in a fox hole with it would have been him. You could always depend on him to stick with you no matter what.” Wow! What a great way to be remembered.

I also live by those words and I always go back to the “Golden Rule” for guidance in my decisions. If I would not want someone treating me in a certain way, I will not treat them that way. These values are in my goals and affirmations and help eliminate the stress and indecision involved in my daily choices. By constantly reviewing your goals and saying your affirmations daily, the decisions you need to make will become a little easier and less stressful. With each decision that comes your way, you just determine if your choice will get you closer or take you further away from where you want to be and how you want to get there.

I strongly encourage you to live your dreams and make the world a better place while you are doing it. Be an advanced citizen and not only help yourself, but help others as well.

Take the high road through your journey in life and make sure to savor every step of that journey.

Please note, I address this topic because chiropractic is not merely a form of manual therapy to help people feel better. Chiropractic is a wellness lifestyle. I strongly believe that families that live the chiropractic lifestyle by having their nervous system checked and cleared of interference (subluxation), eat healthy, exercise, manage their stress properly and practice advanced citizenry, are the happiest and healthiest people around.

It’s like getting the 20 point check-up for your car before you take that long road trip. Don’t wait until you breakdown on the side of the road and are in trouble. Do something good for your family and yourself and save yourself the expensive acute care medical bills associated with breaking down by the side of the road.

Products of the Month : CHARITY

Take a small step toward being an advanced citizen. Volunteer your time or donate monies to a charity, not just once but regularly. Choose a charity or help support my charities of the month. This month The American Cancer Society could use help at their Relays for Life (throughout Lake County) and they appreciate all monetary donations. Give just to Give, you’ll feel great and you will be helping others.

I hope this information helps you take control of your health and your life! If you have any questions, feedback or have any suggestions for future topics, please call or email me.
