I ran across an article and it bothered me so much I thought I needed to share:

This is INSANE: Over 25% of children are taking prescription drugs for chronic ailments Kids are taking to much medicationon a regular basis.

On December 28, 2010 the Wall Street Journal reported that recent data indicated that over 25% of children are taking prescription drugs for chronic conditions and nearly 7% are on two or more such drugs, These chronic conditions include: Asthma, Allergies, ADD/ADHD, High Cholesterol, Diabetes and Sleep issues.

The article goes on to say, “prescribing medications to children can be problematic. There is limited research available about many drugs’ effects in kids. And health-care providers and families need to be vigilant to assess the medicines’ impact, both intended and not (side-effects).” “ Medications like cholesterol-lowering statins,”  “the consequences of using such drugs for the bulk of a patient’s lifespan are little understood.”  “ Most medications that could be prescribed to children on a chronic basis haven’t been tested specifically in kids and older drugs rarely get examined, since pharmaceutical firms have little incentive to test medicines once they are no longer under patent protection.”  “In more than a third of these studies, there have been surprising side effects, or results that suggested a smaller or larger dose was needed than had been expected,  Those findings underscore that children’s reactions to medicines can be very different than those of adults. Long-term effects of drugs in kids are almost never known, since  pediatric studies, like those in adults, tend to be relatively short.”

Prescriptions for high blood pressure in people age 19 and younger could hit 5.5 million – up 17% from 2007.

Clearly the research indicates that research is very limited or non-existent for many of the medications used on children and no studies support the long-term use of these drugs YET over 25% of children are on these medication.  What are we thinking?  Things are so crazy
that this study suggests parents do their own homework and research the drugs before they let their children have them.   This is a very smart and accurate statement with things as they are now but isn’t that an awful lot of pressure and responsibility to put on someone
who most-likely does not have the proper background education to understand much of what they are reviewing?

What is your doctor for if you have to second guess his/her recommendations?

The problem is, there are so many meds that are changing so fast, your doctor has no time
to review each one in detail and with all the associated side-effects of each drug, there is no way to memorize it.  Yet, should they be prescribing something that they have not researched fully and know is safe?

Lastly, this article also touches on a topic that is VITAL.  Healthy lifestyle habits can DRAMATICALLY REDUCE THE NEED FOR ALL THESE MEDS and a WELL FUNCTIONING NERVE SYSTEM WILL ALLOW YOUR BODY TO EFFECTIVELY UTILIZE THESE HEALTHY LIFESTYLE HABITS!

Your nerve system is the master control system of your body and is the system that senses
the input from the things you do (i.e. healthy or unhealthy lifestyle habits) and processes it so your body can use it.

When you are stressed, don’t exercise, have poor posture, eat junk food or have injuries,
decay starts to form in your nerve system the same way sugar causes decay in your teeth.  When this happens, your nerve system will not be able to properly process the input from your attempts at healthy lifestyle habits and information will not flow through your system
freely.  This leads to poor health, poor healing, poor focus, poor immunity …

Doesn’t the master control system of your body deserve at least the same level of care you give to your teeth?  This is where regular chiropractic care comes in.  Chiropractic care is the brushing, flossing and check-ups for your spine and nerve system.  It de-stresses your
nerve system, removing the plaque and decay, allowing the information to flow freely and your body to function properly.   When this happens you will get MAXIMUM BENEFIT from all the healthy lifestyle habits that you do to improve your health.
