Topic of the Month : THE JOURNEY IGNORED

Life is a journey not a destination; cherish every step of that journey.

In previous newsletters, I have discussed goal setting, affirmations and advanced citizenry. These were presented as tools to help you be who you wanted to be and reduce your stress. Achieving your goals and living your dreams is a wonderful thing, but if you are using goals properly, you are always creating new ones as you get closer to meeting your existing goals. Therefore, goal setting it is a never ending process of growth and you will never truly get there. The key to remember is that life is for the living and while you are living you should try to enjoy it.

I have had the unfortunate experience of having many people, young and old, that were close to me, pass on. Some had regrets of things they had done or not done and some had no regrets. These personal experiences seem to correlate with much of the research information that I regularly relay to my patients about lifestyle and the positive affects of a positive mental attitude. The research suggests that those who enjoy their lives and see the world, and its ups and downs, as a positive experience, tend to live longer and have happier lives. One study demonstrated that people who lived longer scored high on optimism, humor and faith and low on ambition, cynicism, fear and anxiety on personality testing. Another study from Johns Hopkins demonstrated that lapses in happiness in women leads to susceptibility to diseases such as cancer. The point is, it is a great thing to plan for and create a “better life,” but don’t miss out on life along the way. I tell everyone that my kids are “freeze dry age.” I would love to just freeze them at this age and enjoy them forever, but you can’t freeze dry them. Every day they do something new and I am glad I get to enjoy a lot of it.

One of the things I always tell people is “everything in moderation.” This suggests that a little bit of something is usually okay, but too much of anything usually is not good. Creating a balance in one’s life is always a trick (I wrestle with it every day). Balancing your efforts to create the life of your dreams and still enjoying the journey can be very difficult, but is worth making the effort to figure it out.

Chiropractic is more than just a manual therapy to alleviate one’s pains and discomforts. It is a wellness lifestyle that enhances every part of your daily living and provides for higher functioning for the future. If you understand that the body is a tremendous self-healing and self-regulating organism, and that the nervous system is the master control system of the body, then it is clear that interference in the nervous system (subluxation), interferes with everything you do and every function of your body. Chiropractic care removes the interference in your nervous system, thereby allowing your body to function properly and stay healthier. My specialty in Family Wellness, Pediatrics and Maternity Care allows me to see some amazing things! Many patients have written testimonials describing complete changes in their lives as a result of receiving chiropractic care in my office. These changes include: resolution of chronic allergies and infertility issues, dramatic reduction in symptoms of ADD, ADHD and Autism, as well as overall enhancement of immunity, mental clarity, mental focus and quality of life (they say they just feel better).

Through living the chiropractic wellness life style, these people achieved nervous systems that were better able to manage the chemical, physical and mental/emotional stressors that were keeping them from being healthy and enjoying their lives to their fullest. Chiropractic has allowed these patients to enjoy the present and live better longer. If you live the chiropractic wellness lifestyle, you may find that you have a greater ability to work toward the future while still enjoying the present.

What is the Chiropractic Wellness Lifestyle?

1. Getting regular chiropractic check-ups to make sure your nervous system is clear of subluxation and functioning at its highest possible level. If there is subluxation, an appropriate care plan will be set-up specific to your needs.

2. Good nutrition with proper supplementation and hydration – your body needs good food, lots of water (approximately ½ your body weight in ounces per day) and proper supplementation to create an environment were all the necessary chemical reactions can take place that will keep your body healthy.

3. Exercise – sedentary lifestyles cause chronic disease. Adults and children need to be out running around and exercising regularly to maintain a healthy body.

4. Stress Management – proper mental perspectives keep you living longer and happier. Adults and children alike need to develop stress management tools to not only manage stress but learn to thrive and grow from it.

5. And Much More …

I want you to enjoy your journey in life and I am willing to help. I offer an advanced healthcare class for my patients. This class provides abundant information about the chiropractic lifestyle and how you can keep yourself healthy.
