Topic of the Month : ACUPUNCTURE

Note about the Author: Dr. Stern holds a Fellowship in acupuncture from the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture (FIAMA) and is currently very close to becoming a diplomate.

Acupuncture is a healing art in which specific points on the body are stimulated to restore a balance of one’s life force and thereby alleviate disease and pain and maintain good health.

Acupuncture without needles is called Meridian Therapy. Meridian therapy utilizes laser, electric and even manual stimulation instead of needles to stimulate Acupoints and is just as effective as acupuncture with needles. Meridian therapy is a wonderful way for small children, people with a fear of needles and those who would otherwise choose to avoid acupuncture to derive the benefits of this wonderful healing art.

Acupuncture has been around for over 5,000 years and was brought to the U.S. in 1971 during the Mao Tse Tung era when President Nixon visited China. Since then acupuncture has flourished in the U.S.

Theory of Acupuncture

Qi (chi), the body’s life force, is electro-magnetic energy that flows through the body along 12 primary and 8 extra-ordinary meridians (pathways). When Qi is out of balance, the body does not function properly and becomes more susceptible to disease and dysfunction.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture helps to restore the normal Qi flow in the body. By restoring normal Qi flow, acupuncture facilitates the body’s own healing process. The blockage or decrease flow of Qi makes the body more susceptible to disease and injury and also prevents the body from healing as it normally should. The restoration of Qi flow restores the bodies’ normal functions and allows the body to heal itself. Specific Acupoints are treated to balance the flow of the bodies Qi. The points are chosen based upon the diagnosed cause of the Qi disturbance.

Acupuncture Diagnosis

Traditionally, tongue and pulse diagnosis were used to diagnose the Qi imbalance. This ancient method of diagnosis is giving way to modern electronic evaluation referred to as “ryodoraku” or “electro meridian imaging” (EMI). EMI uses a small painless sensor on the skin over specific Acupoints. By way of a sensitive metering device, the electo potential of the point/meridian is measured. This examination is extremely reliable and the patient is then able to see the results graphed out for them on the computer. EMI accompanied by a case history and consultation is quickly becoming the standard method of diagnosis internationally.

What Conditions Does Acupuncture Help?

Acupuncture is not just for pain relief and it, like chiropractic care, goes to the source of the problem to facilitate healing. Acupuncture textbooks list well over one hundred different conditions that respond well to acupuncture. The World Health Organization, working in close harmony with the International Acupuncture training center of the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has indicated acupuncture is effective in the following conditions: Asthma, allergies, acute and chronic pain relief, migraine, tension, cluster and sinus headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, bladder dysfunction, bed wetting, neck pain, and mid-back pain, tennis elbow, post-operative pain relief, gastric problems, skin conditions, hemorrhoids, abnormal blood pressure, fatigue, anxiety, neurologic syndrome, various eye problems, etc… This is only a partial list of conditions acupuncture can help.

Complimentary Care Used with Acupuncture.

Traditional Chinese healing incorporated “Tui Na” spinal mobilization (similar to modern day chiropractic care), herbal/nutritional therapy and treatment of Shen (spirit). It is my firm belief that this is truly the best approach to overall health and well being.

For this month only, I am offering 50% off all new patient EMI Acupuncture/ Meridian Therapy Exams.

If you have further questions or want to know if acupuncture could help you, call me for a free consultation.

Products of the Month : Clinical Nutrients Multi-Vitamins

Achieve balance in your body by providing it with the highest quality nutrients that come specifically designed for your gender and age group. These days it is almost impossible to get all the nutrition you need from your food. For this reason, a multi-vitamin is very important for everyone from toddlers to seniors. But please note that NOT ALL VITAMINS ARE CREATED EQUAL. Poor quality vitamins are not absorbed and hence are a waste of your money. There are many questions that need to be asked of the manufacturer to determine the quality of a vitamin. This multi has met all of these quality standards and supplies you with an excellent source of nutritional supplementation as well as supplying you with specific age and gender appropriate herbals.

I hope this information helps you take control of your health and your life! If you have any questions, feedback or have any suggestions for future topics, please call or email me.
